REACH EC 1907/2006

The activity of S.C.OLTCHIM S.A. is complying with the applicable European legislation:

REACH is a new European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use (EC 1907/2006). It deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical substances. The new law entered into force on 1 June 2007

The aim of REACH is to improve the protection of human health and the environment through the better and earlier identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances. At the same time, innovative capability and competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry should be enhanced.

The REACH Regulation gives greater responsibility to industry to manage the risks from chemicals and to provide safety information on the substances

The Regulation also calls for the progressive substitution of the most dangerous chemicals when suitable alternatives have been identified.

Polymer substances (whether on their own or in articles), are exempt from registration. However, REACH requires EU manufacturers and importers of monomers to register these with the ECHA European Chemical Agency).

Exemptions: Non-Community manufacturers of polymer substances are themselves not subject to any of the registration obligations, but they will need to rely on the EU importer(s) to do so, or else appoint an "only representative" within the EU to fulfil the registration obligations.

OLTCHIM is committed to comply entirely with REACH requirements.

Oltchim completed the registration stage: Oltchim registered to ECHA  its entire range of products (see the lists presented below) and pre-registered all the products for which, in accordance with REACH stipulations, the dead line for ECHA registration had to be in 2018.

Currently, in OLTCHIM is running the evaluation, authorisation and restriction stage; Oltchim is preparing, together with the other members of consortiums, the technical dossiers for the products which are covered by the evaluation requirements. Oltchim cooperates with the secretariates of the consortiums where it is member (Propylene oxide, DEHP, DCP) on issues related to implementation and compliance with REACH requirements.  

Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures, amending and repealing Directives 67/548/EEC and 1999/45/EC, and amending Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, with a view to facilitating the worldwide trade while protecting human health and environment.

This Regulation ensures a high level of protection of human health and the environment as well as the free movement of chemical substances and mixtures while enhancing competitiveness and innovation.

The extended safety data sheets (eSDSs) for all Oltchim’s products have been issued in compliance with the requirements mentioned above ( eSDSs comprise the new  classification, packing and labelling stipulations, the precautionary and  hazard statements , the hazard pictogram codes and symbols, the chemical exposure scenarios). Also the products labels have been prepared in compliance with the provisions of this regulation.
